GEMS International School, Dubai Hills is now welcoming applications from experienced English Teachers with the ability and enthusiasm to teach Theory of Knowledge (TOK), for opportunities commencing in August 2026.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based English and Theory of Knowledge lessons that develop students’ literacy, critical thinking, communication, and analytical skills.
- Inspire a passion for literature, language, and the exploration of knowledge through innovative and student-centred teaching.
- Foster an inclusive, supportive classroom environment that encourages intellectual curiosity, reflection, and respectful discussion.
- Differentiate teaching strategies to meet the diverse needs of all learners, including EAL students, gifted learners, and those requiring additional support.
- Integrate technology and creative teaching approaches to enhance learning and student engagement.
- Assess, record, and communicate student progress effectively, using assessment data to inform planning and personalised support.
- Collaborate with colleagues across the IB programmes to design and deliver an engaging, concept-driven curriculum aligned with IB philosophy and standards.
- Support students in developing the research, writing, and critical thinking skills essential for success across the IB curriculum.
- Contribute to the wider life of the school through co-curricular activities, enrichment opportunities, and community initiatives.
- Build positive partnerships with parents and the wider school community to support student wellbeing and achievement.
- Engage in ongoing professional learning and reflective practice to continually enhance teaching and learning.
- Promote the GEMS values and the IB Learner Profile in all aspects of school life.
Skills
The Ideal Candidate Will Have
- A recognised teaching qualification at degree level, such as a B.Ed, PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent, specialising in English.
- A minimum of three years’ successful experience teaching Secondary English, ideally within an IB World School.
- Experience teaching IB MYP and/or DP English, with the ability or willingness to teach Theory of Knowledge (TOK). Previous TOK teaching experience is desirable but not essential.
- A strong understanding of inquiry-based learning and the IB philosophy.
- A passion for developing confident communicators, critical thinkers, and lifelong learners.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and organisational skills.
