Job Description

Provide comprehensive IT support to all administrative and educational staff, ensuring effective use of systems and applications (intranet and internet). Oversee the installation, configuration, maintenance, and monitoring of the school’s computer hardware, operating systems, and related technologies.

  • Install, configure, and maintain servers, PCs, peripherals, IT equipment, packaged software, antivirus programs, utilities, tools, and patches.

  • Administer and upgrade the school’s computer network infrastructure to ensure optimal performance and security.

  • Verify functionality of all new equipment prior to deployment.

  • Troubleshoot issues related to hardware, software, network infrastructure, applications, viruses, and security threats.

  • Set up IT equipment in offices, classrooms, and labs, including user accounts and profiles.

  • Respond promptly to emergency classroom calls involving equipment, software, or network problems, and provide technical support for educational software projects.

  • Prioritize reported issues based on severity and coordinate with relevant parties (GEMS-IT, vendors, suppliers, etc.) for resolution.

  • Engage with users to assess IT needs, recommend best practices, and implement effective solutions to support teaching and administrative goals.

  • Manage and ensure compliance with procedures related to data backups, software updates, data transfers, imports/exports, and system restoration as needed.

  • Maintain records of site software licenses and alert GEMS-IT regarding required upgrades or renewals.

  • Keep an up-to-date inventory of all hardware, software, and associated credentials.

  • Collaborate with GEMS-IT on all school IT matters, including policy implementation, systems integration, infrastructure development, procurement, upgrades, warranties, replacements, new technology initiatives, and budgeting.

  • Ensure full compliance with GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct at all times.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by line managers or supervisors.

Skills

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related field.

  • Minimum of five (5) years of hands-on experience in managing and maintaining ICT infrastructure, preferably within a school environment.

  • Strong communication skills, keen attention to detail, and effective technical problem-solving abilities.

  • Capable of multitasking and working efficiently under pressure during peak periods.

IT Knowledge:

  • Proficient in managing a wide range of hardware and infrastructure, including:

    • Servers, data and voice cabling, network switches, wireless access points and controllers, routers, firewalls, internet lines, and IP telephony.

    • End-user devices such as PCs, laptops, tablets, printers, and peripherals.

    • Multimedia equipment including projectors, interactive smart boards, robotics kits, video conferencing systems, digital signage, and AV equipment.

  • Skilled in Microsoft server operating systems and enterprise-level IT applications:

    • Experience with file servers, databases, and Microsoft Office 365 (including Exchange and other cloud-based services).
