Job Description
Role Purpose
To lead and develop the teaching, learning, and curriculum delivery of Foundation Subjects within Year 6, ensuring high standards of academic progress, engagement, and enrichment. The role combines outstanding classroom practice with curriculum leadership and collaboration across KS2 to ensure consistency and excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Curriculum Leadership
- Lead the planning, delivery, and evaluation of Foundation Subjects in Year 6 (e.g. Geography, History, Art, DT, Computing, Music where applicable)
- Ensure curriculum progression, challenge, and alignment with whole-school priorities
- Work closely with KS2 leadership to support cross-curricular links and enrichment opportunities
Teaching & Learning
- Deliver high-quality, engaging lessons that meet the needs of all learners
- Use assessment data effectively to track progress and raise attainment
- Model excellent classroom practice and share strategies across the phase
Leadership & Collaboration
- Support and mentor colleagues within KS2, promoting consistency in teaching standards
- Contribute to curriculum development meetings and whole-school initiatives
- Work collaboratively with subject leads to enhance provision across Foundation Subjects
Pupil Outcomes & Enrichment
- Promote creativity, critical thinking, and independent learning within Foundation Subjects
- Lead or support enrichment activities, trips, and whole-school events
- Ensure pupils are challenged and inspired through a rich and varied curriculum
Professional Standards
- Maintain high expectations for behaviour, achievement, and presentation
- Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement
- Uphold safeguarding and wellbeing responsibilities in line with school policy
Skills
Person Specification
Essential:
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)
- Strong KS2 teaching experience, ideally Year 5 or Year 6
- Proven track record of high pupil progress and outcomes
- Experience teaching or leading Foundation Subjects
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
- Previous curriculum or subject leadership experience
- Experience in an international or UK curriculum school
- Experience preparing pupils for transition to secondary education
