Job Description

Situated on Al Reem Island, our school offers the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework alongside IGCSE, providing students with a well-rounded and globally focused education.
We are recruiting for an outstanding French Teacher to join GEMS World Academy, Abu Dhabi, from August 2026.
Job Purpose
The French Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning in French across the IB Middle Years Programme delivering MYP language acquisition French and DP French B. The role aims to inspire students to develop strong linguistic, cultural, and intercultural understanding, fostering confidence, curiosity, and international-mindedness in line with the IB Learner Profile and the school’s vision.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based French lessons aligned with the IB MYP and DP language acquisition / language B curricula.
- Develop students’ listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills in French.
- Promote authentic language use and cultural understanding of Francophone countries and communities.
- Use a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including EAL and SEND students.
- Embed ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills and international-mindedness into lessons.
- Design and administer formative and summative assessments in line with IB and Pearson IGCSE assessment criteria.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student progress and language development.
- Maintain accurate records of student attainment and progress.
- Contribute to student reports, parent-teacher conferences, and academic review meetings.
- Contribute to the development, review, and evaluation of the French curriculum across IB MYP and DP.
- Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
- Integrate interdisciplinary learning opportunities where appropriate.
Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care
- Act as a form tutor, supporting students’ academic and personal development.
- Promote positive behaviour, student wellbeing, and safeguarding in line with school policies.
- Build positive, respectful relationships with students, maintaining high expectations.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate fully in professional development, including IB training and workshops.
- Engage in appraisal and performance management processes.
- Contribute to departmental meetings, school events, and the wider life of the school.
- Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and external stakeholders.
Safeguarding
- Uphold and actively promote the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
- Act in accordance with all GEMS Education and local regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in French or a related subject.
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed or equivalent).
- IB MYP and/or DP training or experience (desirable).
- Native or near-native proficiency in French (desirable).
Experience
- Experience teaching French at secondary level.
- Experience teaching IB curriculum is highly desirable.
- Proven ability to deliver strong student outcomes in language acquisition.
