The Theater Technician’s job role is to provide technical support for theatre and performance spaces, managing lighting, sound, and stage equipment to ensure high-quality productions and safe use of facilities.
Skills
Salient Responsibilities:
- Operate and maintain lighting, sound, projection, and stage systems for school events.
- Set up and dismantle staging, AV, and theatrical equipment for performances and assemblies.
- Coordinate with teaching staff to support drama lessons, rehearsals, and productions.
- Conduct routine maintenance checks and ensure all equipment is functioning safely.
- Maintain inventories of theatre equipment and consumables; support budget planning.
- Support students in understanding and using technical equipment when appropriate.
- Ensure the safety and security of performance areas.
- Adhere to school policies and health and safety standards during all activities.
- Provide technical support for school events beyond school hours as required.
Qualifications:
- Diploma or degree in Technical Theatre, Performing Arts, or a related field preferred.
- Minimum 1 year’s experience in a similar role in a school setting.
- Technical knowledge of stage lighting, sound systems, and AV setup.
- Comfortable supporting student learning in a fast-paced creative environment.
- Strong communication, reliability, and attention to detail.
- Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a collaborative attitude.
- Organised, reliable, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
