We are seeking a friendly, organised, and proactive Library Assistant to support the daily operations of our school library and help foster a love of reading, research, and lifelong learning. This is a vital support role within our broader literacy and innovation ecosystem, ideal for someone who enjoys working with students, is confident with digital tools, and takes pride in maintaining an inspiring learning space.

Skills

Salient Responsibilities:

  • Assist students and staff in finding appropriate print and digital resources, guiding them in using library systems and online platforms.
  • Manage routine library operations such as checkouts, returns, overdue tracking, and shelf organisation.
  • Help maintain an accurate and well-organised catalogue of books and materials using library software.
  • Support the Librarian in delivering reading programmes, author events, book fairs, and student book clubs.
  • Create engaging visual displays that promote reading and reflect curriculum topics, seasonal themes, or student interests.
  • Respond to enquiries at the front desk and assist in managing class visit schedules and library email communications.
  • Support students in accessing digital research tools and e-resources, offering basic guidance in collaboration with the Librarian.
  • Participate in maintaining an inclusive, accessible, and welcoming environment that supports all learners.
  • Repair damaged books, help process new acquisitions, and assist with the withdrawal of outdated resources.
  • Collaborate with curriculum teams and the SRI Centres of Excellence to ensure the library experience remains aligned with whole-school priorities.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Library Science or a related field is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a school, public library, or educational setting is desirable.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, especially when working with children and young adults.
  • Familiarity with library software and confidence using digital tools and basic office applications.
  • Organised, reliable, and capable of working independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine passion for children’s and young adult literature, reading, and inclusive education.
