Job Description
We are seeking an exceptional and dynamic Primary Assistant Headteacher to join our Senior Leadership Team. This is a pivotal leadership role for an ambitious, values-driven professional committed to securing high standards in teaching, learning, wellbeing, and pupil outcomes. The successful candidate will demonstrate strategic insight, operational strength, and the ability to inspire staff, engage parents, and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth and excellence of our Primary phase.
The Primary Assistant Headteacher is a key member of the Primary Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic, operational, and academic leadership of the Primary phase. This role supports the Headteacher in securing high standards of teaching, learning, behaviour, wellbeing, and pupil outcomes. The Assistant Headteacher provides visible, consistent leadership across the school and plays a central role in driving continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Support the Headteacher in implementing the school’s vision, values, and strategic priorities.
- Contribute to whole-school self-evaluation and improvement planning.
- Model high professional standards and promote a culture of excellence, inclusion, and accountability.
Teaching, Learning and Standards
- Monitor the quality of teaching and learning through lesson visits, learning walks, book scrutiny, and data analysis.
- Support Heads of Key Stage, Heads of Year, and Subject Leaders in driving progress and raising attainment.
- Use assessment data to identify trends, strengths, and areas for development.
- Promote consistency in planning, feedback, and classroom practice across the Primary phase.
Pastoral Care, Behaviour and Safeguarding
- Support high standards of behaviour and positive pupil conduct across the school.
- Work alongside pastoral leaders to ensure pupil wellbeing and inclusion are prioritised.
- Uphold safeguarding procedures and contribute to a strong safeguarding culture.
- Engage with parents to resolve concerns in a professional and solution-focused manner.
Operational Leadership
- Support the smooth day-to-day running of the Primary school.
- Oversee key operational systems as directed by the Headteacher.
- Contribute to timetable planning, event organisation, and school routines.
- Ensure policies and procedures are implemented consistently.
Staff Development and Performance
- Line manage designated middle leaders or teaching staff.
- Contribute to appraisal processes and performance management.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development support.
- Promote collaboration and professional dialogue across teams.
Parental and Community Engagement
- Maintain strong communication with parents to build constructive partnerships.
- Represent the school at meetings, events, and community engagements.
- Support initiatives that enhance student leadership, confidence, and co-curricular participation.
Professional Expectations
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional development.
- Stay informed about current educational research, inspection frameworks, and regulatory requirements.
- Uphold the school’s safeguarding responsibilities at all times.
