Job Description
We are seeking a versatile, inspiring, and well qualified Guitar Tutor to join our team. This full-time role involves delivering high-quality 1:1 tuition in a range of genres, as well as leading bands and ensembles for both under-18s and adults. The ideal candidate will be confident working across musical styles — including classical, pop, and jazz — and be passionate about developing guitarists (including bass and ukulele) of all levels and backgrounds.
This peripatetic position will involve travel between sites, some regular term-time evening work, and teaching on one weekend day. The ability to teach basic musicianship, piano and/or an additional instrument is highly desirable.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver inspiring and inclusive 1:1 guitar/ukulele/bass tuition across a variety of genres.
- Lead bands and ensembles, selecting appropriate repertoire and preparing for performances.
- Foster a positive, safe, and encouraging learning environment for students of all ages and abilities.
- Develop instrumental technique, musicianship, and performance skills in line with each student’s goals.
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of concerts, assessments, and events.
- Maintain accurate registers, progress reports, and student records.
- Liaise with colleagues, parents, and carers to ensure student progress and engagement.
- Support safeguarding and wellbeing policies and practices.
- Participate in team meetings, training, and continuing professional development.
- Travel between teaching locations and maintain punctuality and professionalism across sites.
Skills
- Degree in Music
- Performance, or equivalent professional experience.
- Proven experience in drums/percussion tuition across multiple genres.
- Experience leading bands/ensembles.
- Strong musicianship, including score-reading and arranging skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- A flexible, enthusiastic approach and a commitment to inclusive music education.
- Willingness to work some evenings and one weekend day.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding.
Desirable:
- Ability to teach basic musicianship and/or another instrument.
- Ability to play piano/keys
- Experience working with both youth and adult learners.
- Familiarity with RSL and ABRSM exam boards
