Job Description
Position Overview: The PE Coach is responsible for planning, delivering and evaluating a wide range of sports and physical activities to enhance students’ skills, fitness and enjoyment of physical education. This role includes providing specialized coaching, supporting the overall development of each student, and promoting a positive sports culture within the school.
Key Responsibilities:
- Programme Planning and Delivery:
- Develop and implement structured, engaging PE lessons aligned with the curriculum and tailored to various skill levels.
- Create and adapt coaching plans to suit the age, ability and individual needs of students.
- Use creative and varied approaches to encourage student engagement and skill development across a variety of sports and activities.
- Skills Development and Fitness Training:
- Provide expert coaching in specific sports, focusing on developing skills, techniques and tactics.
- Incorporate fitness training components to improve students’ strength, agility, endurance and coordination.
- Use drills, games and team-building exercises to promote physical literacy and confidence.
- Student Assessment and Progress Tracking:
- Regularly assess student performance, tracking their development and identifying areas for improvement.
- Provide constructive feedback to students, helping them set and achieve realistic personal goals.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and report on achievements, as required.
- Event Organization and Supervision:
- Organize and supervise school sports events, inter-school competitions and fixtures.
- Ensure safe, well-coordinated events, taking responsibility for logistics, equipment and student supervision.
- Work collaboratively with PE staff to plan and execute events.
- Health, Safety, and Well-being:
- Promote safe practices in all activities, ensuring students understand and adhere to rules and guidelines.
- Conduct risk assessments for sports activities and ensure a safe environment.
- Foster a supportive and inclusive atmosphere where all students feel comfortable participating.
- Inclusive and Adaptive Coaching:
- Adapt activities to accommodate students with varying abilities and needs, ensuring inclusivity.
- Work closely with teachers and support staff to identify and support students with additional needs, providing modified activities as required.
- Communication and Collaboration:
- Maintain open communication with parents, teachers and other stakeholders regarding student progress, upcoming events, and relevant information.
- Collaborate with PE staff to create a cohesive, supportive, and high-quality PE program.
- Serve as a positive role model, demonstrating sportsmanship, teamwork and a commitment to physical health.
- Professional Development and Training:
- Stay current with best practices in sports coaching and PE, attending training sessions and courses, as needed.
- Continuously seek ways to improve coaching techniques, lesson delivery and student engagement.
Skills
Qualifications and Experience:
- Relevant coaching certifications or qualifications in one or more sports.
- Experience working with children and young people, ideally within a school or youth sports environment.
- Knowledge of PE curriculum and fundamental sports training principles.
- Basic first aid certification or willingness to complete training.

- Passionate about physical education, health and sports.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire students.
- Organized, proactive and capable of managing groups effectively.
This role is essential in promoting a positive sports culture, fostering lifelong fitness habits and helping students develop valuable skills, both on and off the field.
