The Post: Head of Food Science
From September 2026 we are seeking an exceptional and passionate Head of Food Science to join our team. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on students by nurturing their creativity and practical skills in the field of food technology. As a Head of Department, you will lead and inspire students to explore the world of nutrition, culinary arts, and food science, helping them build a strong foundation for future careers in the food industry.
The successful candidate will lead an exceptional department which is both popular and successful year on year.
As a Head of Food Science, you will be responsible for delivering engaging and practical lessons that inspire students to explore the principles of food preparation, nutrition, and sustainability. You will guide students through the GCSE Food Technology curriculum, helping them develop the skills needed to succeed both academically and in real-world food-related careers.
Key Responsibilities:
• Deliver engaging and innovative lessons in Food Technology, covering areas such as food science, nutrition, and cooking techniques.
• Support students in developing their understanding of sustainable food practices, food production, and health and safety regulations.
• Foster a creative and hands-on learning environment where students are encouraged to experiment and innovate in the kitchen.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure a well-rounded and cohesive curriculum that aligns with the school’s values and educational goals.
• Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff, providing regular updates on student progress and achievements.
• Participate in extracurricular activities related to food technology, such as cooking clubs or food-related events.
The opportunities which Food Science presents for students is central to the philosophy of the school. As a result, this appointment is crucial to the continued development of Jumeirah College.
Skills
The successful applicant will have the following:
Qualifications and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Food Technology, Nutrition, Culinary Arts, or a related subject.
• PGCE, PGDE, or equivalent teaching qualification.
• Proven experience teaching GCSE Food Technology with a strong record of student achievement.
• Creative and enthusiastic approach to teaching both in and outside the classroom.
• Strong IT and communication skills to effectively engage with students, parents, and colleagues.
• A commitment to career growth, leadership, and sustainability in education.
