Job Description
GEMS Wellington Academy – Al Khail is seeking to appoint an outstanding Head of Business and Economics from August 2026. The successful candidate will lead a high-performing department, ensuring excellent teaching, strong academic outcomes and a curriculum that prepares students for future pathways.
Job Purpose:
The Head of Business and Economics provides strategic and operational leadership of the department across Key Stages 4 and 5. The role focuses on delivering a high-quality curriculum, supporting staff development and ensuring all students achieve their full potential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead curriculum planning, delivery and review across Business, Economics and vocational courses.
- Ensure high-quality teaching and consistent standards across the department.
- Monitor and analyse student progress, implementing targeted interventions where needed.
- Oversee assessment processes, including BTEC verification and exam preparation.
- Lead, support and develop teaching staff, including coaching and performance management.
- Promote a collaborative team culture with high expectations for staff and students.
- Engage with parents through reporting and school events.
- Develop links with universities, industry and external partners.
- Contribute to school self-evaluation, inspection readiness and improvement planning.
- Support whole-school priorities including literacy, inclusion and digital learning.
- Promote enrichment opportunities and support student career pathways.
Skills
- Proven leadership experience within a secondary school setting.
- Strong subject knowledge in Business and/or Economics.
- Excellent understanding of the British curriculum and assessment frameworks.
- Strong communication, organisational and leadership skills.
- Ability to inspire and develop both students and staff.
- Recognised teaching qualification (PGCE or equivalent).
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant subject; further qualifications desirable.
