THE ACADEMY
GEMS World Academy–Dubai (GWA) is a private, co-educational IB World School for PreK to Grade 12 students, established in 2008 as part of GEMS Education. Authorised to deliver the PYP, MYP, DP and CP programmes, GWA is also accredited by the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC).
Located in the heart of Dubai, we serve a diverse international community. THE ROLE
Our English department has transformed student outcomes and succeeded in inspiring a love of learning at GEMS World Academy. This has been achieved through the dedication of staff, their exceptional subject knowledge, and the department’s forward-thinking approach to data and the curriculum. The English department is highly regarded among our student body for the care and personal support offered to students.

Skills
The ideal candidate should have a strong track record in effective teaching and helping students succeed. While experience in teaching the IB Middle Years Programmes & Diploma Programmes is preferred, outstanding teachers from any curriculum background are encouraged to apply. Alignment with the IB philosophy and commitment to the Learner Profile values are crucial. A genuine passion for working in a non-selective and culturally diverse community is also a key requirement. Additionally, the candidate should possess:
- A Bachelor of Education degree, or an initial degree plus a relevant teaching qualification such as a PGCE, PGDE or equivalent specialism in English
- Advanced qualifications are preferred but not essential
- A minimum of 3 years experience teaching Secondary English, ideally within an IB curriculum school, however, this is not mandatory
- A strong understanding of the IB MYP & DP framework and Approaches to Teaching is preferred
- A strong desire to continually improve their practice and deliver outstanding teaching and learning experiences for their students
- The experience, personality and educational philosophy that aligns with a leading IB World School like GEMS World Academy
