Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated English Teacher to join our Secondary team at GEMS Cambridge International School – Abu Dhabi commencing in the next AY 2025-26. This role offers the opportunity to support our English department and deliver engaging and high-quality lessons while maintaining a focus on student progress and well-being.
The ideal candidate will be an experienced teacher with a proven track record of delivering the British curriculum, fostering a love of literature, and supporting students in developing their writing and analytical skills. We are looking for someone who can seamlessly integrate into the department, ensuring continuity and maintaining high standards of learning. Aspiring candidates should be able to showcase their ability to create engaging learning materials that enable active, self-reflective learning to take place. As we also offer an English Second Language pathway, candidates with experience teaching English as an additional language are also welcome to apply.
Key Responsibilities:
- Teach English to secondary school students, ensuring engaging and effective delivery of the British curriculum.
- Plan and deliver lessons that inspire and challenge students, promoting critical thinking, creativity, and independent learning.
- Monitor student progress and provide timely feedback to support their academic development.
- Work closely with the English department and pastoral team to ensure the well-being and academic success of all students.
- Prepare students for their IGCSE and A-Level examinations, ensuring they meet or exceed expected targets.
- Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment where all students feel valued and supported.
- Take the initiative to drive new projects or streamline processes within the department.
Qualifications:
- A certified professional teaching qualification such as B.Ed., PGCE, PGDE or equivalent.
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a specialization in English.
- Experience teaching English in a secondary school setting, with a strong understanding of the British curriculum.
- Proven ability to motivate and engage students through creative and effective teaching methods.
- Experience preparing students for GCSE and A-Level English exams.
- Familiarity with current best practices in English teaching, including the use of technology to enhance learning.
- A commitment to the school’s values of care, excellence, and inclusion.
(Distance or open university degrees are not accepted unless MOE equivalency is obtained). HPL (High Performance Learning) experience will be an added advantage. All certificates should be duly attested.
