Key Responsibilities:
The Director- Student Welfare will be the central figure ensuring the highest standards of pastoral care, safety, and student support. Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership & Policy:
- Develop, implement, and review comprehensive child protection, safeguarding, and student well-being policies.
- Lead the school’s commitment to being a safe and inclusive environment for all students.
- Serve as the designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and the first point of contact for all child protection and welfare concerns.
- Safeguarding & Child Protection:
- Manage and respond to all safeguarding concerns, ensuring timely and appropriate action in line with legal and statutory guidelines.
- Maintain meticulous and confidential records of all welfare cases.
- Liaise with external agencies such as social services, psychologists, and local authorities when necessary.
- Student Support & Pastoral Care:
- Oversee the school’s pastoral care system, providing guidance and support to Heads of Year, school counselors, and teaching staff.
- Identify students in need of additional support and develop individualized plans to address their academic, social, or emotional needs.
- Promote positive behavior, mental health awareness, and well-being initiatives across the school community.
- Training & Development:
- Design and deliver regular, mandatory training to all staff on child protection, safeguarding procedures, and well-being best practices.
- Ensure all staff are aware of their statutory responsibilities and are equipped to identify and report concerns.
- Parent & Community Engagement:
- Act as a key contact for parents on matters relating to student welfare and safeguarding.
- Build strong, trusting relationships with families and the wider community to support student development.
Skills
A Master of Education (M.Ed.) is required, complemented by an undergraduate or graduate degree in Social Work, Psychology, or Education.
A minimum of 5-10 years of progressive experience in child welfare, counselling, safeguarding, or pastoral care within an educational setting.
- Certified training as a Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) or equivalent.
- In-depth knowledge of child protection legislation, statutory guidance, and a Deep understanding of Positive Psychology and its impact on student well-being.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and crisis-management skills.
- Proven ability to lead with empathy, discretion, and unwavering integrity.
- High emotional intelligence and the ability to work collaboratively with students, parents, staff, and external agencies.
