Job Description
GEMS Metropole School is seeking a skilled and motivated Career Counsellor to join our team.
Experience: At least one year’s school-based experience or previous experience working with schools and students in a Careers Advisor/Counseling capacity.
Responsibilities:
Career Counselling:
· Conduct individual and group counseling sessions to help students explore career interests, aptitudes, and goals.
· Provide guidance on educational and career pathways, including college/university options, vocational training programs, and alternative career routes.
· Assist students in developing career plans and setting achievable goals based on their interests, skills, and aspirations
Resource Management:
Maintain an up-to-date database of career resources, including information on colleges, universities, vocational schools, scholarships, internships, and job opportunities.
· Collaborate with school staff to organize career fairs, workshops, and guest speaker events to expose students to various career fields and opportunities.
Assessment and Evaluation:
· Administer career assessments and interest inventories to help students gain insight into their strengths, weaknesses, and career preferences.
· Evaluate students’ academic performance, extracurricular activities, and personal attributes to provide tailored career recommendations.
· Guide students through the college application process, including researching and selecting suitable institutions, preparing application materials, and navigating financial aid options.
4. Individualized Support:
Provide personalized support to students with special needs, learning disabilities, or other challenges in navigating the career planning process.
· Offer guidance on resume writing, interview skills, job search strategies, and professional networking to prepare students for future employment.
5. Collaboration and Communication:
Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and administrators to integrate career development activities into the school curriculum and counseling programs.
· Communicate regularly with parents to involve them in their child’s career exploration process and address any concerns or questions they may have.

Person Specifications:
Qualifications /knowledge: A degree in education/psychology/counseling.
Skills:
Excellent interpersonal skills and empathy.
Able to build strong relationships with students and gain their trust.
Understands the importance of confidentiality and discretion.
Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations and school personnel.
Knowledge of counselling theories, techniques, and practices related to social and emotional development.
