Job Description
Job Purpose
Teach and assess assigned students according to their educational needs and deliver the relevant curriculum, ensuring that each student achieves academic success. Contribute to the wider school community.
Job Scope
Responsible for supervising assigned students, student activities and teaching assistants.
Internal & External Interactions
School administration, colleagues, faculty staff and students, parents, outside agencies, teachers in other schools.
Key Accountabilities
- · Embrace and encourage the ethos and standards of excellence as defined in the GEMS Core Values.
- · Deliver the required curriculum; demonstrating accurate and up to date knowledge of curriculum and subject matter.
- · Plan and deliver quality lessons to motivate students. Create and utilise appropriate materials and the classroom environment to cater for different learning styles.
- · Show written evidence of planning and preparation on request. Establish and maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources, assessment plans etc.
- · Ensure the GEMS policies, procedures, and codes of conduct are followed at all times.
- · Set and mark work. Assess, record and report on the academic development, progress and attainment of students and use assessment to ensure the curriculum meets the individual student’s needs.
- · Display competence in using media and technology in the classroom.
- · Promote the general progress and well-being of students and provide guidance to students oneducational matters.
- · Communicate with persons outside the school where appropriate (eg Ministry of Education officials).
- · Participate in appraisal and Performance Management procedures and Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
- · Work alongside colleagues on the preparation and development of teaching materials, resources, courses of study and pastoral arrangements.
- · Participate in, and lead where appropriate, the co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes in the school. Promote good working relationships through active leadership and sharing ideas, materials and experiences.
- · Monitor and supervise safe and appropriate student behavior. Plan and implement strategies to encourage self-discipline and manage disruptive behavior.
- · Model and encourage cultural awareness and understanding and promote a love of learning.
- · Assist in the planning and organising of school events and functions (eg inter-house competitions, concerts, school plays, prize days etc).
- · Communicate and meet with parents regularly promoting the GEMS philosophy and core values; keep parents regularly informed of students’ progress while respecting the confidentiality of student-related information
- · Initiate effort and energy beyond the typical work day, where the tasks require additional commitment.
- · Attend staff meetings and serve on committees as required.
- · Perform other duties as requested by direct & dotted reporting line managers / supervisors..

- · Deliver the prescribed curriculum effectively through well-structured, engaging, and inclusive lesson plans that align with GEMS standards of excellence.
- · Ensure the academic, personal, and social development of all students through differentiated instruction, continuous assessment, and effective pastoral care.
- · Adhere to GEMS policies and core values, actively participating in professional development, school events, and collaborative planning with colleagues.
- · Maintain positive and regular communication with parents and the school community to foster trust, transparency, and shared responsibility for student learning.
Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) – Measurable
- · Improvement in student assessment results and attainment levels.
- · Demonstrated progress for all students, including those with additional learning needs.
- · Positive performance in lesson observations and peer/line manager reviews.
- · Evidence of innovative, engaging, and differentiated teaching practices.
- · Positive feedback in parent and student surveys regarding teaching quality and communication.
- · Active participation and visibility in school community events.
- · Completion of required CPD hours and active contribution to school initiatives.
- · Adherence to GEMS policies, safeguarding standards, and code of conduct at all times.
Skills
Qualifications/ knowledge:
Education/teaching degree OR first degree and teaching qualification/licence. Knowledge of the use of ICT in schools to aid teaching and learning.
Skills:
Skilled teacher with solid commitment to teaching and learning and strong subject knowledge in relevant area. Excellent communication skills able to build relationships with students and colleagues and contribute to wider school life.
