We are recruiting for an outstanding Music Teacher to join GEMS World Academy, Abu Dhabi, from August 2026.

Job Purpose

The Music Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality teaching and learning in Music across the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IGCSE. The role aims to inspire creativity, musical expression, and critical engagement with music, fostering students’ performance, composition, and listening skills in line with the IB Learner Profile and the school’s vision.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and deliver engaging, inquiry-based music lessons aligned with the IB MYP and IGCSE Music curricula.
• Develop students’ musical skills across performance, composition, and listening/analysis.
• Encourage creativity, collaboration, and confidence through practical music-making.
• Use a range of teaching strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, including EAL and SEND students.
• Embed ATL (Approaches to Learning) skills and international-mindedness into music learning.
• Design and administer formative and summative assessments in line with IB and Pearson IGCSE assessment criteria.
• Provide timely, constructive feedback to support student progress and musical development.
• Maintain accurate records of student attainment and progress.
• Contribute to student reports, parent-teacher conferences, and academic review meetings.
• Contribute to the development, review, and evaluation of the Music curriculum across IB MYP and IGCSE.
• Collaborate with colleagues to ensure vertical and horizontal curriculum alignment.
• Integrate interdisciplinary learning opportunities where appropriate.

Student Wellbeing and Pastoral Care

• Act as a form tutor, supporting students’ academic and personal development.
• Promote positive behaviour, student wellbeing, and safeguarding in line with school policies.
• Build positive relationships with students based on mutual respect and high expectations.

Professional Responsibilities

• Participate fully in professional development, including IB training and workshops.
• Engage in appraisal and performance management processes.
• Contribute to departmental meetings, performances, concerts, school productions, and the wider life of the school.
• Communicate effectively and professionally with parents, colleagues, and external stakeholders.

Safeguarding

• Uphold and actively promote the school’s safeguarding and child protection policies.
• Act in accordance with all GEMS Education and local regulatory requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Music or a related subject.
• Recognised teaching qualification (e.g. PGCE, B.Ed or equivalent).
• IB MYP experience (desirable).

Experience

• Experience teaching Music at secondary level.
• Experience teaching the IB and/or IGCSE curriculum is highly desirable.
• Proven ability to deliver strong student outcomes in Music.

• Strong subject knowledge and passion for Music education.
• Ability to teach across a range of musical styles, traditions, and technologies.
• Commitment to inquiry-based, student-centred learning.
• Excellent classroom management and communication skills.
• Collaborative team player with a reflective approach to practice.
• Commitment to international-mindedness, inclusion, and continuous improvement.
